Inside the Not So Big HouseInside the Not So Big House is the latest in the popular series of Not So Big House books by Sarah Susanka. This one is about built-in details that make a home more comfortable, useful, beautiful and personal. Examples of interior details from twenty-three homes are presented and explained. And the examples are good -- the houses seem to make fine use of space and they are attractive designs in a variety of styles. The "Classic Cottage Simplicity" home is the closest to my house style. Sliding doors, simple detailing, and porches as living space are all right up my alley. I like the idea to set the porch handrails at 30 inches instead of 36 to improve the view when sitting. Unfortunately, Inside the Not So Big House is mainly an idea/picture book. It includes almost no how-to guidance or project drawings. The serious lack of "meat" means that you may want to check this one out of the library instead of buying it. You're unlikely to use it as a frequent reference. |
